Alex Ballingall is Deputy Ottawa Bureau Chief for the Toronto Star. Over almost 15 years, he has covered three federal elections, multiple major party leadership races, global tensions during the era of Donald Trump and populist rage, and the government response to the crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic. He is currently working on understanding the workings of Prime Minister Mark Carney's Liberal government, from its transformation of national climate policy to its massive drive to rearm the Canadian military and bolster the economy. Ballingall lives in Ottawa with his partner and two kids.
